Energy-efficient Lighting Solutions for the Indian Market

OSRAM doubles its production capacities in India

With the construction of a second plant in the Haryana region, OSRAM is set to double its production capacities in India in the next three years, further advancing its expansion in the Asia / Pacific region. Today, OSRAM CEO Martin Goetzeler and the premier of Haryana, Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda ceremonially laid the corner stone for the new plant in Kundli. The focus of the product range of the plant will be energy-saving T5 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps. In the medium term, OSRAM will be investing between 15 and 20 million euros. A 500-strong workforce is planned for the end of 2009.

Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM said: "India plays a central role in our strategy for the Asia / Pacific region. Next to Eastern Europe, APAC is our number one growth region. In the coming years, we want to substantially extend our market position here through innovative and energy-efficient products." Particularly in India, one of the largest markets in the world, immense efforts are being made to achieve greater energy-efficiency. OSRAM would like to participate in this development as much as possible and actively shape this change with a wide range of energy-saving lighting solutions.

As early as in July, OSRAM started construction of a second optoelectronics plant in Malaysia. In September, the lighting manufacturer announced - subject to the approval of the authorities - the establishment of a company in Hong Kong for the production of compact fluorescent lamps in China for the Asian and Latin American markets.
