Petra Karadimas's work exists somewhere between painting and photography. Her images depict people in public spaces: on the street, in parks, or at the beach - individuals going about their daily lives. The scenes seem familiar - at times idyllic, at times banal.

Petra Karadimas's images are manipulations of her own photos, which she digitalizes and prints onto photographic paper.

First impressions prompt a photographic aesthetic. But this is soon put into question by painted structures that fracture any sense of authenticity. The "bodiless brush stroke" creates a material disconnect. The notion of objective documentation is placed under scrutiny along with conventional visual perceptions. Karadimas makes use of the inherent characteristics of photography and painting - seizing the moment versus subjective identification - to create a dialectical challenge for viewers.

The most recent OSRAM Haus series, which explores a dialogue between painting and photography, has featured exhibitions by Wolfgang Kessler (painting) and Klaus Oberer (photography). Petra Karadimas's exhibition of digital photography alienated through painting is the final installment.
