Caroline von Grone paints according to observation. The artist, who lives in the northern German city of Kiel, finds or poses her subjects in daily situations. Often she relocates her studio to public areas. Paintings are created in underground stations or public spaces, transforming the creative act into an integral part of the exhibition. Her painting projects are rigorous and thoroughly composed studies of our reality that tend to establish links with art history. Based on this approach, she will realize a special project in the Osram foyer: "Fusses Leuchte". For two days, on 22 and 23 October 2005, Caroline von Grone will paint a model as part of her exhibition. The main subject is a man carrying a cross that reflects details of the foyer wall panelling. You are welcome to come see the artist painting in action.

Her paintings can be interpreted as multi-layered reflections on perception. Her earlier canvases show a concrete, clearly outlined colour application and naturalistic presence. In her more recent works, she deals intensively with light and reflections, giving the surface of her paintings a refracted and veiled character. Both groups of work are linked by "a meticulous recording of even the most minuscule details in their lucid transience." (Claudia Herstatt).
The current exhibition links earlier and more recent works by Caroline von Grone, including the large-format painting "Ecce homo, Marienplatz", which was created during the exhibition project "Offensive Malerei" (lothringer13/halle) in Munich's Marienplatz underground train station in 2001.
