Pia Linz is not a painter in the conventional sense. She is a researcher who explores her own perception. The results of her studies are elaborate drawings and object-like paintings.

Based on her sense of sight, the Berlin artist attempts through her work to define herself in relation to the world. She creates a series of works, including cone pictures, cover engravings and visual field projections. These creations are a vivid lesson in the physiology of perception.
 
The cone pictures are created on location. Within a glass form, fixed at a specific spot, the artist turns on her own axis. She immediately documents what she sees by painting or drawing on the interior of the cone. This creates panoramas that can be viewed from the exterior - panoramas that turn the interior perspective inside out for the viewer. While these cone pictures totally capture her surroundings, the visual field projections are attempts to capture her field of vision in its entirety.
 
Pia Lenz relates to the world around her that she creates through her own subjective perceptions. The ordinary character of her locations (for example, pizzerias, cinemas) enhances the viewer's enjoyment in deciphering the connections between interiors and exteriors and is a source of food for thought.
