Contrary to the classic dogma to be “autonomous” in art, Lucia Dellefant applies her paintings, objects and installations as discourse matter. She sets focus on their communicative and visionary motives and drafts “spaces” for the viewer in broader sense as production area for the own visions.

Lucia Dellefant’s artistic projects and her interventions, which are especially developed for the according exhibition location, hold the viewers in dialogue, who stand at the centre of her works. In humorously ironic as much as in serious fashion Dellefant sheds light on personality concepts and imagination space of the “I”. Words serve as raw material for various works. Terms, sentences, pictograms and logo forms are brought to connect panels, sculptures and installations with amorphous, graphical and architectonical forms and thus receive artefact dimensions. Their pictures, objects and rooms defy distinct expression and trigger as projection surfaces the own visions of their viewers. As multiply interpretable and by the viewers own sense and meaning fillable situations, which are composed from different reality fragments, Dellefants projects introduce modern allegories.

As basis of the series “life-design” served in various cities exhibited, three parted installations of a sitting area, which consisted of letters of the word “Ich” (I). The visitors were to make notes of their current condition, situation and private vision of the future. Different sentences from these texts Dellefant moulded into the hereby developed panel series “life-design”, in which she combines the sentences of the visitors with paintings. In exhibitions these pictures again produce perceptions of new viewers.

In a similar nature Dellefants project “visioning - meeting your vision” relates to the visions of the audience. In a modular, additive installation a number of comfortable couch areas are set up in the gallery and the outer area of the main administration of OSRAM, which are combined and connected with one another.  As retreat and reflexion areas they offer the opportunity to reflect on the own goals, wishes and work and develop new pictures and procedures.

Biography

Lucia Dellefant was born 1965 in Munich and lives and works there. 1985 – 90 she studied art at the LMU München. 2002 – 2005 she was in the studio support programme Bayern, 2001 she recieved a scholarship from the Erwin u. Gisela von Steiner-Stiftung, 2006 the Paris-Stipendium Cité Internationale des Arts. Next to international exhibitions she has also created art in building projects.
