Poor visibility is one of the most common causes of accidents. The importance of light and visibility is particularly obvious at night. Nearly half of all fatal accidents occur at night - even though there are five times fewer vehicles on the road than during the day. So optimal car lighting is all the more important, and that starts with lamps that work exactly as they are supposed to.

But what many headlamps deliver is often not what is promised on the packaging. That was revealed by extensive testing at Karlsruhe University's Lighting Technology Institute. The quality of 100 H7 halogen headlight lamps was tested on the basis of the mandatory approval criteria of the ECE (Economic Commission for Europe).
And there should be no lamps on the market that do not meet those requirements.

The result was that only brand lamps received a "good" rating.
The no-name products performed poorly. The failure rate was 81% - the test verdict: "poor".
Many of them were too dim, failed to direct the light properly, dazzled the oncoming traffic or exceeded the permitted power consumption. 
Some lamps were even found to be so poor that they ought to be removed from the market. The laboratory has reported these findings to the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

The brand lamps on the other hand surpassed these minimum test requirements with ease - i.e. only these brand lamps are safe.
