After the opening by the organizers, Paul Traynor addressed the focus of the event in his keynote speech: the value of lighting design in architecture. The presentation included innovative lighting projects from around the world. Attendees then were given the opportunity to explore the New Opera House, guided by Jonathan Speirs and Keith Bradshaw (Speirs & Major Associates).
The day was concluded with a second highlight: a tour through the Concert Hall Ørestad Nord which was still under construction at the time. Stefan Zopp (Ateliers Jean Nouvel) and Thomas Drejer (Light Makers) provided attendees with first and exclusive insights.
Light turns visions into reality -
at the IT University/Concert Hall Ørestad Nord, Copenhagen
The modern appearance of the IT University/Concert Hall of Copenhagen with its contrasting styles added a new dimension to the themes of the second day.
The new Concert Hall Orestad Nord is surely one of the most prominent examples of contemporary architecture. Stefan Zopp presented his work on the project, addressing the challenges he encountered and the approaches he applied to integrate state-of-the-art lighting into the sophisticated architectural structure.
The ensuing presentations all looked into the interrelation of architecture and light – but coming from different angles: from innovative lighting systems to façade lighting, designing with daylight and artificial light, and the effects of light on human beings. The diverse programme documents the broad spectrum of today’s challenges and at the same time offers solutions and identifies potentials and prospects. M. Goetzeler builded on this in his speech, concluding the event with a vision and images of the future of lighting. Attendees returned home with a suitcase full of inspiration!
