The establishment of a high environmental standard, the promotion of the health of our employees and the securing of a safe working environment are the requisites for shaping a sustainable future. Hence, our EHS performance is an important part of the overall sustainable performance of OSRAM.
While the compliance with all applicable legal and other requirements in the areas of environmental protection, energy efficiency, health and safety is obligatory, we often go beyond these standards. In order to continually monitor the degree of achievement of our EHS objectives we have an organization with clearly defined areas of responsibility and adopted systematic management systems according to the international standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 for continuous improvement processes. These management systems have led to the definition of all the necessary measures, processes, tasks and responsibilities for implementing, maintaining and evaluating our EHS policy and guidelines.
EHS Policy and Guidelines
For OSRAM, assuming social and corporate responsibility includes protecting the environment, ensuring occupational health and safety, and preserving natural resources. Thus, we set up a corporate EHS policy and guidelines in order to integrate these issues into the overall management on a corporate-wide level. Our EHS policy provides a framework for action and the setting of objectives, targets and programs for environment, health and safety topics. Our EHS guidelines define binding requirements and principles for the global EHS management system.
Every site is covered by the global EHS management system and must therefore implement, maintain and evaluate the system according to its individual EHS relevance. This includes integrating the requirements of the system into all relevant processes and covers all enterprises and projects allocated to the site concerned. The formal implementation of a local EHS management system in accordance with the global system is required for EHS relevant units such as manufacturing plants or distribution centers. At OSRAM, EHS comprises the following topics and organizational activities.
- Energy, water and waste management
- Pollution control
- Chemicals management
- Environmentally conscious product design and recycling
Health and Safety
- Promotion of physical activity and healthy nutrition
- Medical care and mental health
- Occupational safety
- Ionizing and optical radiation safety
- Transport of dangerous goods
