Facade lighting, Al Bandar Rotana hotel, Dubai – United Arab Emirates
The new Al Bandar Rotana hotel, located directly at Dubai Creek in Dubai, has been designed to stand out from the surrounding buildings but at the same time present a serious face. The owners opted for an acrylic facade with dynamic backlighting. OSRAM had the ideal product in its portfolio in the shape of the BackLED RGBW Plus 2: stylish and affordable, efficient and robust. Al Bandar Rotana is a famous hotel chain throughout the countries of the Middle East. The new hotel in Dubai had to be in keeping with the serious image of the brand: eye-catching yet discreet. The location of the hotel at Dubai Creek with many magnificent high-rise buildings in its immediate vicinity made this task a real challenge.
To stand out from its surroundings, the chosen look was an acrylic facade with dynamic backlighting. In discussions with the facade installers and the electrical contractors, lighting designer Waleed Fakousa from CD+M Lighting Design realized that the only product worthy of consideration was the OSRAM BackLED RGBW Plus G2. “With their flexible interconnecting cables and very wide-angle optics, the LED modules not only met our high requirements for homogeneous, aesthetic lighting but also fell within our limited budget. And thanks to their low energy consumption and excellent durability the modules are also very economical. Their IP66/IP68 rating and their special encapsulation make BackLED RGBW Plus G2 modules extremely robust – ideal for the hot and humid climate in Dubai.”
Variable dynamic lighting sequences
Waleed Fakousa and his team of lighting specialists has made full use of the extensive color-mixing palette of the 700+ BackLED RGBW chains by operating them through an e:cue DMX light management system. Dynamic lighting sequences and the various light colors can therefore be adapted to suit different occasions such as Christmas and New Year, all through software control. As a result, the Al Bandar Rotana hotel is an eye-catcher whatever the time of year – and the Dubai Creek skyline is one landmark richer.
