Light quiz – Using light to store information

According to researchers from the Magdeburg University, in the future computers will operate on the basis of light. In close cooperation with international colleagues, the scientists want to store information in light packages rather than in electrons, as is the case today. However, there is still a hurdle to be overcome: the control of light. A memory, also called a micro resonator, consists of numerous parts, in which the light has different speeds. However, a constant speed is required to exchange information – which is why the speeds in the waveguide and the actual memory module must be the same.

Question: How is it possible to synchronize the different speeds of light?
