At midnight on New Year's Eve, people all around the world welcome the New Year with colorful fireworks. Numerous variants of rockets are on sale in stores worldwide and one may wonder how such spectacular magic can be performed in the sky.

Question: What makes pyrotechnic articles work the way they do?

a) The rockets are filled with inert gases, such as neon, which light up in different colors when released.
b) The rockets include various soluble sugar crystals which reflect the residual light.
c) Various metallic salts in the rockets light up in bright colors when burning.
