Recognizing new opportunities

Mobile phones and tablet computers are used more and more for sensitive applications such as online banking and online shopping. As a result, biometric identification methods are the latest trend for unlocking mobile devices, since they offer a strong and specific protection against abuse.

Fingerprint scans are subject to falsifications to a certain extent as fingerprints change in the course of life or can be exposed to external influences. Therefore, many manufacturers now consider the iris scan as the new biometric unlocking method. The eye is illuminated with infrared light and the camera on the device takes a picture of the iris so that its characteristic features, which are unique for every person, can be identified. The result is then compared with the stored iris pattern. With an error rate of less than one percent, the iris scan is not only fast, but also a very safe method of identification.
