James L. Johnson is the new CEO of Classic Lamps and Ballasts Unit at OSRAM

Osram today announced the appointment of James L. Johnson as Chief Executive Officer of its new business unit Classic Lamps & Ballasts (CLB). The appointment follows the reorganization of Osram’s reporting segment Lamps & Components that was announced in April and became effective May 1. The traditional business of the former reporting segment is now bundled in the Classic Lamps & Ballasts unit.

“My focus will be on creating the conditions necessary to provide our customers high quality Classic Lamps and Ballasts in order to maintain their freedom of choice in times of technology transition”, said Johnson. “With a strict focus on cost, price and complexity, we want to ensure a sustainable value proposition to our customers.”

As CEO of the business unit CLB, Johnson will be responsible for discharge and thermal general lighting products and systems. These traditional technologies are declining and are expected to experience globally shrinking volumes for the years to come.

Johnson has been in the lighting industry for almost 20 years. He most recently served as President and General Manager at Valeo Sylvania LLC. Prior to that, he held various positions within Osram, including Executive Vice-President of the global Automotive Lighting Division and President of Osram Canada. Johnson holds a degree in Economics and will be based in Danvers.
