New brand name for OLED products from Osram Opto Semiconductors:

Pictiva is the new name for high-quality OLED displays

REGENSBURG - Osram Opto Semiconductors is combining its OLED products and technologies (OLED = Organic Light Emitting Diode) under the Pictiva brand name. Pictiva represents a new generation of lightweight, ultra-thin, polymer-based self-emitting displays. These products offer moving pictures in video quality with a wide viewing angle and enable extremely low-profile displays to be made with high levels of brightness and contrast. The company associates the brand name with high standards of quality and reliability.

An evaluation kit comprising a 128 x 64 format Pictiva display, Pictiva software, USB cable, control keyboard and power supply is available as an OLED reference design (price: $1850). The hardware and software will enable developers to test new products efficiently and bring them to market more quickly. High-quality Pictiva displays will find applications in many different areas, such as car dashboards, radios, mobile phones, PDAs, medical equipment and white goods. Series production at Osram Opto Semiconductors will start in the second half of 2003.

This is where prototypes are produced on a pilot line. Series production will take place in Penang, Malaysia.
