OSRAM brings light and safety into the car

Greater comfort and safety in the car - no problem with LEDs, infrared diodes and pulsed lasers from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. At the Automotive Innovation Elektronik Tour, the company presents its latest trends and technologies alongside several other partners from the automobile supplier industry.

During the tour from 11 - 29 June, the truck will stop at 15 selected company locations throughout Germany - including Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Porsche in Weissach, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge in Munich, and DaimlerChrysler in Sindelfingen. On their own company grounds, these automobile manufacturers and designers will then be able to experience an interesting and varied presentation of OSRAM products. The vehicle developers will have the opportunity to learn about the most recent developments. "We intend to present our entire know-how - and not only to our direct contact in the company but to anyone interested in our developments," explains Peter Knittl, Marketing Manager LED Automotive.

The fields of application are as varied as the products and range from infrared diodes (IRED) in night vision systems to pulsed lasers in intelligent cruise control systems and LEDs for interior and forward lighting. For low and high beam light, the Ostar Headlamp LED ensures homogeneous illumination of the road based on pure surface emission and a precise arrangement of the LED chips. With "Color on Demand" LEDs turn the interior into any customised colour. Optical sensors with IRED and photo detectors make driving even more comfortable and a great deal safer - for example, by improving the electronic stability program (ESP), which compares the movement of the car with steering-wheel inputs. Even airbags can in future be controlled more reliably: the pulsed laser from OSRAM measures the number and position of passengers in the car and controls which airbags need to be deployed where required.
