What is UNISHAPE ?

UNISHAPE - Modern Intelligent Electronic For Superior Image Quality

Welcome at UNISHAPE homepage of OSRAM.

What is UNISHAPE:

UNISHAPE stands for UNIversal SHAPed Lamp Light Technology of OSRAM for P-VIP Systems (Lamp Lampdriver) for Frontprojection and Rearprojection applications

UNISHAPE is registered trade mark of OSRAM

UNISHAPE Technology of OSRAM enables the outstanding image quality of DLP Systems.

Description

UNISHAPE denotes a technology of OSRAM P-VIP lamp systems that enables a wave-generator like shaping of light on millisecond time scales. The light waveform shape is repeated in synchronisation with the DMD and color wheel.

Advantages

  • More* colours (1-2 additional bits per colour possible)
  • More* Brightness
  • Higher* Contrast
  • Easy changing colour temperature without brightness losses
  • More* colours at dark scenes
  • Less* artefacts - dithering, rainbow effect is diminished with new 6 segment colour wheels (RGB Magenta Yellow Cyan)

* In comparison to projection systems without light modulation.

DLP Chipsets from Texas Instruments supporting UNISHAPE from OSRAM:

Frontprojection: DDP3020, DDP2230,...

Rearprojection: DDP3021, DDP1011...

UNISHAPE Lamp Systems
UNISHAPE lamp systems consist of lamp and lamp driver

UNISHAPE Lamp
No different from the lamps used with MULTISYNC drivers. No change in lamp names or ordering codes.

UNISHAPE Lamp Driver
Drivers use new firmware and base on the latest release of the hardware platforms. There are new ordering codes for each UNISHAPE lamp driver.

Basic operation
New TI chipsets is prerequisite for running UNISHAPE in DLP projectors.

Setup of UNISHAPE lamp drivers in production of projectors

  • UNISHAPE lamp drivers come programmed with a standard RGBRGB waveform from the factory.
  • The customer (projector manufacturer) has the possibility to upload his own unique UNISHAPE waveform to the lampdriver.1)

Operation of projector

  • The SCI signal triggers the UNISHAPE waveform.
  • The UNISHAPE lampdriver can store multiple waveforms. 1)
  • The user can select between stored waveforms during operation. For example between high brightness data mode or superior colour video mode.
  • OSRAM provides various documentation and software tools for design-in and operation of UNISHAPE lamp systems. 1)
