CO2 is a greenhouse gas largely produced by burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal - for example when they are used in power plants to generate electricity. These greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere in ever increasing concentrations, causing a growing proportion of solar energy to be trapped in the atmosphere rather than being reflected back into space.
Honestly – do you still use conventional light bulbs at home? With energy-saving lamps from OSRAM you can make your first step towards climate protection. Compared to a conventional light bulb, an OSRAM energy-efficient lamp saves around 80 % energy, having the same luminous efficacy.
In the past years we continuously extended our product range and are pleased to be able to offer our customers a great variety of energy-saving lamps, such as compact fluorescent lamps and LED-lamps. In the end, less energy consumption means less CO2 emissions.
A transition to efficient lighting technologies could save a lot of energy - if only 30 % of the potential would be realized, almost a fifth of the global amount of electricity used for lighting could be saved - that is 260 million tons less CO2 per year.
